Glaze Making

Glaze Making is the process of creating the coating applied to pottery before firing, giving it colour, texture, and a protective finish. Made from materials like silica and colorants, glazes melt in the kiln, creating a smooth, glass-like surface that enhances the beauty and durability of each piece.

Hand Building

Hand Building is a pottery technique where clay is shaped by hand, without the use of a pottery wheel. This approach includes methods like pinching, coiling, and slab building, allowing for unique, organic shapes and textures. Hand building encourages creativity and offers endless possibilities for crafting one-of-a-kind ceramic pieces.

Slip Casting

Slip Casting is a pottery technique that involves pouring liquid clay, called slip, into a plaster mould. As the plaster absorbs moisture, a clay layer forms along the mould’s inner walls. Once set, the piece is removed, refined, and fired. Slip casting is ideal for creating intricate and consistent shapes in ceramics.

Wheel Throwing

Wheel Throwing is a pottery technique where clay is shaped on a spinning wheel to create symmetrical forms like bowls, vases, and pots. The potter uses their hands and tools to center the clay, pull it upwards, and refine the shape. Wheel throwing requires skill and control, allowing for precise, consistent pieces with a smooth, professional finish.
